CLIMATE
Menorca enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate, characterised by mild winters and hot (though not excessive!) summers. Rainfall in Menorca varies widely, with virtually none during the summer and a lot in winter. The result is a verdant green landscape throughout all but the hottest periods, whilst the island still sees over 300 days of sunshine per year. A special mention to the famous tramontana – a prevailing northerly wind that has given rise to Menorca being called the «windy island», blowing, particularly in March. The islanders have names for all eight winds (depending on their direction)
ITINERARY
Menorca is the western island of the Balearic archipelago. This is the second island in term of surface after Mallorca. The population of the island is 75 000 inhabitants. In 1993, Menorca was given by the UNESCO the distinction of «Reserve of Biosphere», in fact Menorca is a wonderful island, with emerald beaches, and an always blue sky (more than 300 days of sunshine per year).
The “Camí de Cavalls” (the Horses Trail) is an alternative way to contemplate Menorca’s natural charms. This 179-km trail, which completely encircles the island of Menorca, was built to defend the island. It is not known exactly when the road was created and the oldest written documentation found until now dates from 1682, although the origins of some stretches appear to go back to the fourteenth century. This trail was used to safeguard the coast and communicate with battlements, watchtowers, and other fortifications. This ancient coastal trail offers the chance to discover one of the island’s most important attractions: its nature. Riding along this trail it is also a privileged way of diving into the history of Menorca: remains of Megalithic, Roman, Vandal, Byzantine and Moslem civilisations, the medieval Christian conquest of 1287, British and French have all left their mark.
The Unknown Views of Menorca ride takes you along this Camí de Cavalls, and it allows a unique access to the unspoilt Menorcan coast, rather inaccessible from inland. The views of the Mediterranean turquoise waters are breath-taking. When you ride “round the corner” on the Camí de Cavalls and the sea appears in front of you… literally, it does take your breath away!
It is a slow ride, but it requires riding experience and technique. The terrain is difficult, and some passages can be complicated. This slow pace allows you to dive into Menorca’s diversity, embody all the scents that the breeze carries and feel immersed in the intense colours of its skies and beaches.

The selection of the accommodation and the service in every aspect of the ride is of outstanding quality.
Menorca’s country hotels are excellent, with lots of charm, portraying the characteristics of the local architecture. They are wonderfully comfortable, some luxurious 4* boutique country hotels. Nearly all of them have swimming pools.

ITINERARY
The Sierra de Gredos mountain range lies in central Spain within easy reach to the South West of Madrid, and much of it has a Regional Park status. This majestic stretch of mountains lying across the centre of Spain, like a titanic rampart, reaches its highest point at the Almanzor peak (2,592m/7,776 ft).
Very pleasant fun day rides, remarkably diverse landscapes, with great mountain views and pristine mountains rivers. This itinerary is designed to enjoy the spectacular wildflowers of the Gredos Mountains in Springtime and the best Summer riding in Spain. The days riding combine the 360º views of the high mountain pastures and the lush alpine river valleys, all above 1500 m, with a very unique flora, rich in endemic species including 12 different varieties of “broom” species (Genista), and the invigorating swims in the rivers and in the mountain gorges.
The summer rides is a real summer holiday, with long picnic lunches and beautiful pools to swim – some are great Jacuzzis, followed by sunbathing siestas. This is a part of Spain where you can enjoy a great ride in the middle of the summer, with an average temperature in Navarredonda de Gredos, in July-August 25ºC maximum during the day and minimum during the night 12ºC.

ITINERARY
Both provinces, Segovia and Avila are in Central Spain, in the Meseta, the great high plateau of the Iberian Peninsula, in the region of Castilla y Leon.
The ride starts in the Sierra of Gredos Nature Park, where riders will be inspired by the landscapes full of light and colour and the nature’s splendour. This area is truly rural Spain, with an economy based on free range cattle breeding. The small villages display their architecture, their traditions, and the way of life of their people, isolated in this inaccessible nature that shapes their unique character. It is an excellent terrain for riding, mostly open fields with magnificent views and paths that follow the course of rivers.
The second part of the ride will take you to Segovia, a journey back in history, with many historic sites accessible on horseback, riding through the open and unspoilt Castilian countryside. Riders will visit the medieval city of Segovia, World Heritage Town by the UNESCO, which boasts a magnificent cultural heritage including the colossal Roman Aqueduct from the 1st century AD, one of the greatest in Europe; and ride to the Romanesque church of Sotosalbos; the castle and fortified city of Pedraza; and the Royal site of La Granja de San Ildefonso, with its grand baroque palace and its beautiful gardens.

Please note our temporary conditions will run until June 30th, 2021 because of the Covid19 pandemic. These conditions will be extended, if the travel restrictions are not lifted by that time, until the end of 2021.
BOOKING
The General Booking Terms & Conditions are an integrated part of the contract between the participant and the tour operator. Bookings can only be made in writing. For minors, the signature of the parent or legal guardian is required. When booking, the participant accepts these Booking Terms & Conditions. The mutual rights and responsibilities of the parties in the contract are exclusively regulated by the Booking Terms & Conditions, subject to written agreements. With the acceptance of the tour operator, the participant will receive a written confirmation of the booking. All details of the booking are bound by these Booking Terms & Conditions.
PAYMENT TERMS
After receipt of our booking confirmation/invoice a deposit of 20% of the ride price per participant is to be paid within 14 days.
60 days before the ride starts the remainder of the price is to be paid. If the booking is within 60 days before the ride starts, the full payment is due with receipt of the booking confirmation/invoice.
When booking a single room, the participant will be charged a single room supplement.
SERVICES
Based on the description on our website (www.equiberia.com) the range of provided services are only available upon written confirmation from Equiberia.
Additional arrangements can only be made in writing.
The services included/not-included in the price are detailed in the description of every ride.
CANCELLATION BY THE PARTICIPANT
A withdrawal from the contract is possible at any time prior to the departure of the horse ride. The cancellation must be made by email.
The training, care and feeding of the horses is part of the service even before the start of the trip. The well-being of the horses is very important for us, and we take care of the horses all year round, even if there are no rides going ahead of course. This is the only way we can ensure that the riders who join our rides will be provided with a well-trained and balanced horse when he/she starts the ride.
Therefore, in the event of a cancellation, deposits are non-refundable, to help partially cover this service rendered in advance,

The withdrawing participant can provide a replacement person who meets the requirements of the booked trail. In that case no cancellation fees will be charged.
If the trip is interrupted by the participant, there is no entitlement to reimbursement for not rendered services.
SPECIAL TERMS FOR THE EQUIBERIA COLLECTION RIDES, PRIVATE GROUPS AND CUSTOMIZED TRIPS
Special cancellation terms will apply for the Equiberia Collection rides, private groups, and customized trips by our concierge services, to be able to offer these special programmes in case of less participants, or in case of a group cancellation.
The specific terms for every special programme will be notified at the time of the booking confirmation.
CANCELLATION BY THE TOUR OPERATOR
All the departures are in principle guaranteed, but for some of the rides a minimum number of riders is required. If the minimum participant number is not reached, a supplement may apply. This will be notified at the time of confirming the booking.
In the unlikely event of important organisational or personal reasons to cancel a ride, the participant will receive a refund for any services not provided. Other claims excluded.
If the participant is not fit enough for the trail or his/her skills or health or physical conditions are not suitable for the requirements of the trail, the tour operator can withdraw from the contract without entitlement to any refund. The participant is then responsible for their own travel home. The tour operator reserves the right to keep the full cost of the trail.
MANDATORY ACCIDENT INSURANCE
Accident insurance is mandatory, and it should guarantee that you are insured to undergo all equestrian activities pursuant to the riding holiday booked. Insurance should cover plus accident, illness, recovery, repatriation, and liability. You are responsible for the organization of your insurance and the adequate protection for the total duration of your riding holiday.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover trip cancellation, baggage damage or loss,
We will ask for details of your insurance policy for the trip before the final payment for the ride due.
Equiberia is a fully licensed company and travel agency with the mandatory liability insurance and basic accident insurance coverage for the participants of the rides.
The use of riding helmets for equestrian holidays is not mandatory in Spain. We highly recommend you bring and wear your own helmet. We can provide some riding helmets if necessary. You will assume your own risks and should be aware of the requirements of your accident insurance policy concerning the use of riding helmets.
WARRANTIES AND DISCLAIMERS OF THE TOUR OPERATOR
The tour operator agrees to provide the agreed services, as described in the ride details, the careful selection and scrutiny of service providers and the complete delivery of the overall services.
Every ride includes the services of many local suppliers. Some of the services, including accommodation, could change if any of the suppliers went through any unforeseen circumstances. Equiberia will always guarantee the best available option and go the extra mile to replace any of services offered and ensure the success of the riding holiday with the highest quality standards as described in the programmes.
It is pointed out explicitly that horse riding is a high-risk activity. The participation in all activities is at the rider’s own risk. The tour operator and his employees assume no liability for accidents or injuries to participants or third parties and for material damage to the participant, his clothing and other equipment, in so far as this is permitted by law.
With regards to the impact of weather conditions and the personal ability of the participant, the tour operator cannot guarantee that any trail will be carried out exactly as it is described in the program./
Equiberia reserves the right to make changes to the program and prices and to correct any falsities and misprints.
In the exceptional case of any complaint, it should be reported immediately on site, so that the responsible person can deal with the matter. Claims for any compensation are to be sent in writing within 30 days of the end of the holiday.

TRAVEL FORMALITIES / HEALTH
The participant is responsible for his/her own arrival and departure and the compliance with regulations concerning passports and visas, as well as any mandatory vaccinations. All expenditures and disadvantages due to non-compliance are at the expense of the participant. When registering, the participant confirms that there are no existing health issues which prohibit his/her participation in the ride.
NOTE ON PHOTOGRAPHS AND FILM SHOTS
During the trails, photos are taken, and film recordings are made which may be published on different media sites. The images may be displayed on our homepage or on social media networks.
The participant accepts that the unpaid publication of these photographs and recordings can be done without their explicit permission.
If the concerned person does not agree to the publication of his or her personal image, the tour operator kindly asks to notify by e-mail, with the exact description of the picture in question. In this instance, the image will be removed within a reasonable time and will no longer be published.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
All bookings are made on the rider’s understanding and acceptance of these Booking Terms and Conditions.
The rider also acknowledges and agrees, that his/her participation in Equiberia’s riding programmes is voluntary.
The rider accepts and assumes the risks and legal responsibilities for any injuries and damages which may result from participation in horseback riding trips. ITINERARY
The province of Segovia is in Central Spain, in the Meseta, the great high plateau of the Iberian Peninsula. It is situated between the provinces of Madrid, Guadalajara, Soria, Burgos, Valladolid, and Avila, in the region of Castilla y Leon.
The Segovia ride is a journey back in history, through open landscapes, ancient woods, and river valleys. You will explore on horseback some jewels of the Spanish history: the castles of Pedraza, the Romanesque churches of Sotosalbos and Ermita de Las Vegas.
This ride will take you through very diverse natural landscapes, from the alpine views of the Sierra de Guadarrama, to the old transhumance trails and the open grazing fields.
After the day’s ride, transfer to the city of Segovia. The medieval city of Segovia, World Heritage Town by the UNESCO, boasts a magnificent cultural heritage including the colossal Roman Aqueduct.
DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
3-day center-based ride (back to the same hotel in Segovia at the end of the ride every day).
Dates/ pace of the ride/ hours in the saddle can be tailored for small private groups.
The Segovia Escapes ride combines very diverse itineraries and depart in all different directions from the riding centre Hipica Eresma. Excellent terrain for riding. It is a very active pace, with long steady cross-country canters. The pace will be adapted to the ability of the riders.
The average riding time is 4-5 hours per day. The total distance of the trip is about 95kms/60miles.
Day of arrival. Transfer MADRID – SEGOVIA
Transfer from Madrid to Segovia, about 1-and-a-half-hour drive. Accommodation at the Hotel San Antonio El Real, a luxurious 4* hotel, built in the cloisters of an ancient monastery from the 15th century, in the heart of the city of Segovia, a 5 min walk from the Roman Aqueduct. Transfer to the Equestrian Centre to see the stables and the horses. After meeting the horses, panoramic visit of the city of Segovia by car and a welcome drink in the Segovia main square. Welcome dinner and night at the hotel.

After lunch, following the Clamores river high valleys, the ride will reach a climax with the breathtaking views the Alcazar of Segovia and the old historic town. Descent towards the meadows of San Marcos where the rivers Eresma and Clamores meet, and where the 13th century church of the Veracruz that belongs to the Order of Malta stands. The climate in this area of Spain is nearly tropical. Winter months are strongly recommended – with gentle temperatures, maximum 18 – 22ºC and minimum temperatures at 8-10ºC. Average days of rain in the February – March – November months is 5 days per month.
ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation has been carefully chosen for the quality, the location and the superb hospitality shown to both riders and horses. One night, the horses stay in a field next to the hotel where the group stays.
The ride will include some luxurious hotels with character, and some small and charming country hotels, providing double or twin-bedded rooms and en-suite baths.
Single accommodations can be arranged at an additional charge.
Two nights are spent at the National Parador of Gredos 3*, an ancient hunting lodge built by the king Alfonso 13th, the first Parador opened in Spain. Other accommodations will be comfortable rural hotels. One night at a charming country hotel in the village of Navalperal de Tormes. Two nights at the Hotel Rural La Dehesilla, with an exquisite cuisine. One night in Boutique hotel Milano Real. The last night in Avila is spent at the luxurious Parador of Avila 4*, a 16th century Palace in the historical centre of monumental Ávila, backing onto the majestic city walls.

HISTORY
ABOUT GREDOS
Remains of some prehistoric settlements from the Neolithic period were found in the Southern part of the Gredos. The presence of humans in the area is also recorded in the 4th century BC in remains of the «Cultura de los Verracos», sculptures in granite of, it is presumed, bulls. The Romans did not settle in the Gredos. They built mountain passes through the Sierra de Gredos, and we can still see the Roman roads built in the 2nd century BC. The Arab settlements in the Gredos were rather non-existent. During the Arab occupation of the Iberian Peninsula, the Christian kings were reorganised in the North (9th and 10th centuries). Castilla became and independent Christian kingdom in 1033. In those times the borders with the Arab Empire were in the region of the Tajo and the Duero rivers, where many battles took place, with the Sierra de Gredos as a geographical barrier. The Gredos mountain passes were often crossed by the Christian troops in their attempts to conquer the main Arab settlements. In the 14th century the Gredos region was fully colonised. Many Jews populated the southern part of the Gredos, after the Reconquista, developing the agriculture and the artisan jobs. By the 15th century the Castilian noblemen had control of the whole territory. From the time of the kingdom of the Catholic kings onwards, the political history of Gredos is subject to the general history of Spain.
In medieval times, the livestock was a very important part of the economy of Castilla. The geographical aspects of Castilla y León – allowing the migration of the sheep from winter to summer pastures – the Reconquista and the repopulation of this region made possible a sustainable growth, based on the very selective breeding of the merino sheep. The migration of the livestock – called in Spanish «Trashumancia» – and the network of cattle paths established in those medieval times show the importance of this unique way of living. For more than four centuries Spain was the producer of the highest quality merino wool in the world and had the monopoly of the international markets. In the mid-18th century, 3,500,000 merino sheep trashumantes (that the shepherds moved seasonally from winter to summer pastures and back) were registered. The transhumance was, for centuries, the main way of living for the inhabitants of the Gredos, especially for the ones living on the northern side of the Sierra, until the price of the wool dropped in the international markets in the 19th century. More effort then had to go into the agriculture, developing the watering systems, and cultivating crops imported from America (maize, potatoes, beans), for which there was a demand in the European market; and, in the southern Gredos, olive groves and orchards were also developed. In the northern part of the Sierra, in the higher valleys where only cereals could be cultivated, they converted the livestock from sheep and goats to cattle. Cattle-breeding, for the selective Avilan beef, is still the main source of business for many of the villagers of the Northern Valleys of the Gredos. In recent years Rural Tourism has developed as a key factor for the sustainability of the life in Gredos.
ABOUT ÁVILA
We strongly recommend spending a night in Avila, a medieval fortified city and UNESCO heritage site. This can be done before or after the ride and coordinated via our helpful Concierge Services.
Avila and its famous walls were built in the 11th and 12th century (2500m, 88 towers, 9 gates) to protect the Spanish territories from the Moors. The walls are still intact, and visitors can walk the ramparts taking in amazing views of the surrounding countryside.
Avila is the “City of Saints and Stones”. The birthplace of St Theresa and the burial place of the Grand Inquisitor Torquemada. Avila has maintained its medieval austerity and authenticity. This can still be seen in the Gothic cathedral and the fortifications which are amongst the best preserved in Spain. Charming squares and beautiful quiet pedestrian streets lend themselves to pleasant strolls through this old historic town.

Creating flexibility for customers to change plans is nothing new to us as we have always been flexible to help you deal with circumstances that made you have to change travel plans,
However, we’ve all quickly learnt that we are in a new world now, and that many more customers may have to change their travel plans at short notice.
So, we’ve gone further to ensure that all our trips come with the flexibility to change your travel plans. So, if things do change then you can too – by postponing your trip to a different date or swapping your trip to another. If not ready to plan another date or trip, we offer you the possibility to credit any deposit amount paid to any future ride or finally if none of the previous options work out, we will proceed with a refund. We have updated our cancellation policy to provide ultimate flexibility in booking your trip. Since the pandemic started, we have been transparent with our policy providing guests several options,
COVID PAYMENT TERMS
For departures prior to July 1, 2021, we have modified our payment policy to provide our guests with ultimate flexibility up until a few days before a trip starts.
These temporary terms will regularly be updated and extended if travel restrictions are not lifted during this year 2021.
We hope you decide to book your trip with us, for this year 2021 or an early booking for 2022.
After receipt of our booking confirmation a deposit of 20% of the ride price per participant is to be paid within 14 days.
The remaining amount is only payable if it is guaranteed that you can travel: the flight has been confirmed, travel warnings have been lifted and travel restrictions form the home and destination country allow to travel.
We will request balance payment only if travel is possible and accept last minute payment until days before departure-
It these conditions were only given within days before the start of the trip, we would need a copy of the payment order before your arrival,
These payment conditions are valid until June 30th, 2021 for participants who have already booked, as well as for new bookings.
COVID FLEXIBLE CANCELLATION OR POSTPONEMENT
If your ability to travel is not approved at the start of the trail due to travel warnings and travel restrictions from the home and/or destination country, or due to an infection with COVID 19, you can cancel or postpone your booking.
If you are unable to travel due to the above-mentioned effects of COVID 19, yhe best preferred option we offer is to postpone your travel to a later date. The payment already made will be credited for the new trail ride.
If you cannot immediately decide on a new travel date, we will keep your credit until the end of 2022. This credit will be valid for the same ride or any of the rides in the Equiberia programme until the end of 2022. A possible difference to the originally booked trail programme will then be compensated accordingly.
In the event of definitive cancellations, please note that the training, care and the feeding the horses is part of our service even before the start of the ride. We need to be ready for when we can all finally get to ride together again. Therefore, in the event of a definite cancellation, for this service rendered in advance, we will keep the 20% deposit of the total price of the trip.
In the case of a postponement of your trip, the deposit or the total amount paid will be credited to your next trip.

Special cancellation terms will apply for the Equiberia Collection rides, private groups, and customized trips by our concierge services, to be able to run these special rides, even in case of less participants, or to be able to postpone the trip in case of a group cancellation.
The specific terms for every special programme will be notified at the time of the booking confirmation and specially to each group already booked for 2021.

Travelling with us
We have enhanced our health and safety standards for hotel partners and cleaning standards our riding equipment and are adjusting logistics for transport and aperitivos and picnics to accommodate for adequate safety. We are following guidelines recommended by European and Spanish health officials.
We are evaluating the option of providing a rapid Antigen test upon arrival, so as a group we become a “bubble-family” and we can safely enjoy our ride together as a group and following all the protocols when in public places.
We are contemplating being aligned with local approved healthcare providers to provide onsite COVID-19 rapid testing before departure if your countries of origin require tests when you fly back home.
As you plan your trip to Spain, we remain committed in sharing up-to-date travel information, so you can stay informed.
As the situation continues to evolve around the globe, we realize that plans made today may need to be adjusted tomorrow. We must adhere to government travel restrictions and local authority guidelines. Therefore, we are monitoring all trips on a rolling 30-day basis prior to trip start date (or sooner if necessary) and making adjustments. It is time for some good news. In 2021 we celebrate our 25th Anniversary, 25 years of Creating Memories with you, our dear riding friends from all over the world. Covid19 may have interrupted our plans of riding together for some time, but we have spent our confinement months keeping all of us, humans, horses, and dogs in good shape, for all the good days on horseback coming soon. In 2021, we will celebrate and go even more the extra mile to make every ride an incredibly special time for all of you who decide to ride with us. Furthermore, we have spent our time researching and curating a very exclusive set of rides that we will be offering to our returning riding friends. We want to celebrate with you very especially, by sharing new and exciting rides in other parts of Spain. We have created the Equiberia Collection section on our website, where we will reveal shortly more details of these exclusive rides. Memories await…
Gredos Dark Skies Starlight Reserve
A milestone in our efforts to preserve Gredos natural wonders. The Gredos Regional Park has obtained the Starlight Reserve certificate granted by the Starlight Foundation (a UNESCO organization), becoming the first of its kind in the Castile and León region. A Starlight Reserve is a protected natural space where the quality of the night sky and access to the light of the stars is proactively protected. These spaces are natural treasures in specially designated areas around the world under an explicit commitment to protect and preserve. Our dark skies and access to designated observation points and specially trained Starlight Monitors means a universe of adventure has just opened to Equiberia and to the riders that come to ride with us in Gredos.

Equiberia’s rides take place in sparsely populated rural areas of Spain like Gredos, Segovia, Menorca, and the rural Seville area, with overall low levels Covid19 incidents. We are in close touch with local authorities, associations and businesses continually monitoring the situation so that when you arrive, you can feel confident we are taking care of your best interests, letting you relax and enjoy the ride!
HISTORY
ABOUT SEGOVIA
Towers, Romanesque churches, squares, steps, mansions and Renaissance palaces, synagogues, porticoes, convents, gardens… Segovia boasts a whole host of monuments and an almost endless list of places of interest. You will see one monument that predominates over everything else: the spectacular Roman Aqueduct, an engineering achievement dating back almost 2,000 years and whose colossal appearance is still intact today. The best view of it can be obtained from the popular Plaza Azoguejo square: the huge blocks of granite stand 29 metres tall, seeming to dwarf everything in the vicinity.
A stroll through the streets of Segovia is a pleasant and interesting way of gaining an insight into the history of Spain. Over the centuries, various civilisations (Romans, Arabs, Jews, and Christians) have left an artistic heritage that is difficult to match elsewhere. This will become obvious as you stroll through its old town, whose streets still boast the medieval structure and civic and religious buildings of various architectural styles. Many of them were built during the Middle Ages, the heyday of this city. One example from this period is the Cathedral, the last Gothic building constructed in Spain; another is the Alcázar, the impressive fortress with its stunning views of the city. And then there is the unique Casa de los Picos House, the Alhóndiga corn exchange market, with a façade that leaves no-one unmoved, and the tower Torreon de los Lozoya, originally a 14th century defensive structure, which are now used to hold cultural exhibitions.

NON-RIDERS
Non-riders can hire a car and visit the interesting tourist spots in the area. They can re-join the riders in the evening for dinner and split off again after breakfast the following morning. We will provide information on the area, suggest itineraries, and connect with local guides and any place of interest, local artisans, or a small bar in a village where the local meet. On some of the ride, some of the days, non-riders can go in the support vehicle and join the riders for the aperitivos and lunches in the countryside too.
The Segovia itinerary can be adapted for cycling (ideal for road cycling and E-bikes and there are good paths and beautiful remote empty roads and villages with the greatest views). We can offer full support for cyclers through a specialised cycling tours company.
BESPOKE GROUPS AND FAMILIES
We can customize our equestrian vacations for private groups such as small parties, family gatherings or groups of friends. We can create a trip for a group with special interests or around a special event, or create an exclusive tour including trip extensions with our customizable concierge services.
The Segovia ride is designed for competent riders. It can be tailored for private groups with mixed riding abilities, from intermediate to advanced riders, not for beginners. The riding trips can be combined with other activities such as cycling, birdwatching, kayaking and/or cultural visits and wine tasting.
We customize intimate, fun, rich, flexible, and memorable experiences. We offer some options, but we can adapt to new requests an adapt to a wide range of needs or interests.

NATURE
GUADARRAMA NATIONAL PARK
Located in the Eastern part of the Central Massif of Spain, the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park encompasses 33.960 hectares, from which 36% belong to the province of Segovia. This mountain range divides the Madrid and Segovia provinces. The majority of its surface is covered by heights where rocky outcrops, mountain pastures and shrubs dominate. The Segovia rides take place in the boundaries of this National Park.
CAÑADA REAL SORIANA ORIENTAL
Spain in furrowed with countless tracks, across its geography, that tell the history, the culture and the traditions of the people, as if they were the lines of a hand. They are the “Cañadas Reales”, old cattle paths, existing since prehistoric man needed to move his cattle to new pastures. This natural patrimony covers 125,000Kms, fifteen times the length of the Spanish railway network, and a total of 450,000 hectares. The Cañadas Reales have also a unique ecological value because, like rivers, they help the migration of a variety of species. These tracks were the main arteries of communication of the civilizations that for centuries lived in Spain. In the Segovia rides we will canter along the Cañada Soriana Oriental, on the slopes of the Guadarrama mountains.
ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation chosen for this ride is excellent and of special interest in this ride.
4 nights will be spent at the Hotel Monasterio San Antonio el Real, a luxurious and charming 4* hotel. It was built in the cloisters of an ancient monastery from the 15th century, in the heart of the city of Segovia, a 5 min walk from the Roman Aqueduct.
Single accommodations can be arranged at an additional charge.
FOOD AND WINE
Breakfast, aperitifs, lunches, and dinners are included while on the trek. The local cuisine is excellent, and much consideration is taken when planning the meals to provide visitors with a sampling of the many different dishes produced in the area. Lunches on this ride will be mostly at small bars or restaurants the ride goes through. If groups of 6 or more riders, we can organise lunches in the countryside. Dinners at the hotels will feature a varied selection of the typical cuisine.
All the drinks are included during the meals. Spanish red & white wines; beer, juices, soft drinks and water.
Vegetarians and special diets can be accommodated with advance notice.
The chance to try local food specialities, including the roast lamb and the suckling pig from Segovia. People from Madrid and other provinces of Spain drive to Segovia to try those world-famous delicious roasts.

The horses are Andalusian crosses, mainly Anglo-Hispanos (Andalusian & Thoroughbred cross), ranging in height from 15-16 hh, and selected for their good nature and endurance. They are very well trained for the rides and for schoolwork, dressage and jumping. They are very fit, very willing and they are fun to ride.
PACE OF THE RIDE
Excellent terrain for riding. It is a consistently active pace, with long steady cross-country canters. The pace can be adapted to the fitness of the riders, but in this programme, riders can enjoy some exciting rides and the Segovia ride can be quite a sportive week. A good level of riding fitness is required to make the most out of the great riding this week.

Gredos is our home and we have great flexibility and many local contacts to organise activities for non-riders. They can enjoy themselves just as much as they could by taking any trip to this region of Spain and still spend a good part of the time with the riders.
Non-riders can hire a car and visit the interesting tourist spots in the area. They can re-join the riders in the evening for dinner and split off again after breakfast the following morning. We will provide information on the area, suggest itineraries, and connect with local guides and any place of interest, local artisans, or a small bar in a village where the local meet. On some of the ride, some of the days, non-riders can go in the support vehicle and join the riders for the aperitives and lunches in the countryside too.
The Gredos itineraries can be adapted for cycling (ideal for road cycling and E-bikes and there are good paths and beautiful remote empty roads and villages with the greatest views); walking or hiking: fit walkers can follow some of the itineraries the riders do and then we can organise local drivers to meet the walkers and take them to the hotel; hiking or trekking in the Gredos high mountains for fit skilful trekking adepts is magnificent. Birdwatching, flyfishing, stargazing the Dark Sky of Gredos, wine tasting and tapas festivals in the local bars. In May-June the Broom Blossom festival of Gredos; in June the Cattle Transhumance and in July the Concert Artists in the Nature (with artists such as Sting, Bob Dylan or Mark Knoffler in the past years) ; tapas festivals in the local bars…there is plenty to do for non-riders in the Gredos rides. And there is also a Rural Spa, where one can relax and enjoy a massage.

NATURE
The Sierra de Gredos mountain range is situated between the provinces of Avila, Cáceres and Salamanca, crossed by the Duero and Tajo rivers. It is the main range of the Sistema Central and covers 140kms, from east to west. The Gredos are divided into three parts: The Eastern Massif; the Central Massif (in the valleys of which our rides take place), including the Almanzor peak; and the Western massif. The name of Gredos seems to derive from a Celtic root that refers to the whiteness of the snow.
The Gredos mountains and valleys in the province of Ávila are part of Spain’s protected Natural Heritage and received their designation as a Regional Park in 1996, with a protected area totalling 86,397 hectares.
Glacial cirques, green alpine pastures, lakes, and groves of scotch pine make up the northern face of the massif, which is characterised by a luminous atmosphere and mild summer temperatures. The traditional husbandry in this region has allowed a harmony to exist between man and nature all the way up to the present day; it is evident in every corner of the Gredos. The mountain farming and cattle-raising which is widespread in the Gredos and the rational exploitation of forestry permits man here to co-exist with the region’s unique flora and fauna.
Gredos is a paradise for botanists for its diversity of ecosystems rich in wildflowers. There are at least 11 species, which are endemic to the Gredos (only found in this region). And it is an exceptional area for birds, and many interesting and unusual species can be seen here.

You will be pampered by our attention to detail and our high standards in every aspect of the ride. Our exquisite aperitivos appear around the corner, just when you think you need a break. Our gourmet lunches served al fresco on white linens in stunning surroundings will become lifelong memories – dining will never be the same again. The long summer lunches by the river, followed by a siesta, sunbathing and swimming in the pristine river, feel like a real summer holiday. We always come up with surprises and special treats: delicious water cress in spring or exquisite mushrooms in the autumn, just picked up the same morning; a sumptuous birthday celebration in the middle of the countryside.

Some lunches will be cooked on the spot; others prepared the village bars o restaurants, always exquisite. Our exciting selection of local Spanish wines will delight the most demanding palates. We offer Spanish Wine tasting/pairing evening in The Valleys of Gredos ride.
We aim to minimize the impact in the environment. Our meals are elaborated with local produce: salad, vegetables, meats, and fruit are produced in the Northern and the Southern slopes of Gredos. Even our olive oil is produced is a small local cooperative. We serve local Spanish wines and beer made in Gredos. Whenever possible our choice is Zero km food (0 km food). It denotes the food produced, sold and eaten locally – the food which travelled zero kilometres. Our rides hardly require transport of the guests, as we usually ride to the hotels where riders and horses stay. We minimize the waste in our rides. Our picnics are 99% waste free with proper reusable crockery and cutlery, glasses, and tablecloths. These may seem small things, but they count.

RIDING ABILITY
Beginner, intermediate or experienced riders. Reasonably fit riders.
The pace, the length and the challenge of this ride can be adapted for small groups of friends or families.
It is a great ride for “rusty” riders to get back in shape or for less confident riders to gain experience for the long week rides.
It is not necessary to be an expert rider but it is advisable that riders have some trail riding experience, can manage a horse at all paces and comfortable handling a horse on the ground. A level of fitness is required, as the days are 4-6 hours. Riders can assist in taking care of their horses if they wish – but it is not necessary. Horses will be ready for the riders to get on every morning.
HORSES
The horses are Hispano-Arab, Andalusian, Arab and Lusitano breed ranging in height from 15-16 hh and selected for their good nature and endurance. The horses are excellent, very well trained, responsive, fit and fun to ride, happy horses with a lot of personality, and very much loved.

The pace of the ride varies with the terrain. The ride includes walks, trots, canters, and gallops depending on the terrain. Overall, it is a moderate pace, with some slow parts due to the mountainous terrain. There are open areas through the valleys where it is possible to canter with excellent tracks for exciting rides.

NON-RIDERS
On our Gredos and Segovia tours non-riders can enjoy themselves just as much as they could by taking any trip to that region of Spain and still spend a good part of the time with the riders.
Non-riders can hire a car and visit the interesting tourist spots in the area. They can re-join the riders in the evening for dinner and split off again after breakfast the following morning. We will provide information on the area, suggest itineraries, and connect with local guides and any place of interest, local artisans, or a small bar in a village where the local meet. On some of the ride, some of the days, non-riders can go in the support vehicle and join the riders for the aperitivos and lunches in the countryside too.
The Gredos and the Segovia itineraries can be adapted for cycling (ideal for mountain and road cycling and E-bikes and there are good paths and beautiful remote empty roads and villages with the greatest views). We can offer full support for cyclers through a specialised cycling tours company. Walking or hiking: fit walkers can follow some of the itineraries the riders do and then we can organise local drivers to meet the walkers and take them to the hotel.
BESPOKE GROUPS AND FAMILIES
We can customize our equestrian vacations for private groups such as small parties, family gatherings or groups of friends. We can create a trip for a group with special interests or around a special event, or create an exclusive tour including trip extensions with our customizable concierge services.
Our riding trips can be tailored for private groups or families with mixed riding abilities, from beginners to advanced riders. NATURE
GREDOS
The Sierra de Gredos mountain range is situated between the provinces of Avila, Cáceres and Salamanca, crossed by the Duero and Tajo rivers. It is the main range of the Sistema Central and covers 140kms, from east to west. The Gredos are divided into three parts: The Eastern Massif; the Central Massif (in the valleys of which our rides take place), including the Almanzor peak; and the Western massif. The name of Gredos seems to derive from a Celtic root that refers to the whiteness of the snow.
The Gredos mountains and valleys in the province of Ávila are part of Spain’s protected Natural Heritage and received their designation as a Regional Park in 1996, with a protected area totalling 86,397 hectares.
Glacial cirques, green alpine pastures, lakes, and groves of scotch pine make up the northern face of the massif, which is characterised by a luminous atmosphere and mild summer temperatures. The traditional husbandry in this region has allowed a harmony to exist between man and nature all the way up to the present day; it is evident in every corner of the Gredos. The mountain farming and cattle-raising which is widespread in the Gredos and the rational exploitation of forestry permits man here to co-exist with the region’s unique flora and fauna.
SEGOVIA
The Segovia rides takes place in the boundaries of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Located in the Eastern part of the Central Massif of Spain, the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park encompasses 33.960 hectares, from which 36% belong to the province of Segovia. This mountain range divides the Madrid and Segovia provinces. Most of its surface is covered by heights where rocky outcrops, mountain pastures and shrubs dominate.
In the Segovia rides we will canter along the Cañada Real Soriana Oriental, on the slopes of the Guadarrama mountains. The “Cañadas Reales” are old cattle paths, existing since prehistoric man needed to move his cattle to new pastures. This natural patrimony covers 125,000Kms, fifteen times the length of the Spanish railway network, and a total of 450,000 hectares. The Cañadas Reales have also a unique ecological value because, like rivers, they help the migration of a variety of species. These tracks were the main arteries of communication of the civilizations that for centuries lived in Spain.

ABOUT AVILA

Avila is one of the World Heritage Cities of Spain, one of the 660 cultural sites in the world that the World Heritage Committee considers as having outstanding universal value.
Avila is a medieval town, surrounded by walls constructed in the 11th and 12th century (2500m, 88 towers, 9 gates) to protect the Spanish territories from the Moors. The walls are still complete nowadays. Avila is the “City of Saints and Stones”. The birthplace of St Theresa and the burial place of the Grand Inquisitor Torquemada. Avila has kept its medieval austerity. This purity of form can still be seen in the Gothic cathedral and the fortifications which are the most complete in Spain. Charming squares and beautiful quiet pedestrian streets for a very pleasant walk around this old historic town.
ABOUT SEGOVIA
Towers, Romanesque churches, squares, steps, mansions and Renaissance palaces, synagogues, porticoes, convents, gardens… Segovia boasts a whole host of monuments and an almost endless list of places of interest. You will see one monument that predominates over everything else: the spectacular Roman Aqueduct, an engineering achievement dating back almost 2,000 years and whose colossal appearance is still intact today. The best view of it can be obtained from the popular Plaza Azoguejo square: the huge blocks of granite stand 29 metres tall, seeming to dwarf everything in the vicinity.
A stroll through the streets of Segovia is a pleasant and very interesting way of gaining an insight into the history of Spain. Over the centuries, various civilisations (Romans, Arabs, Jews and Christians) have left an artistic heritage that is difficult to match elsewhere. This will become obvious as you stroll through its old town, whose streets still boast the medieval structure and civic and religious buildings of various architectural styles. Many of them were built during the Middle Ages, the heyday of this city. One example from this period is the Cathedral, the last Gothic building constructed in Spain; another is the Alcázar, the impressive fortress with its stunning views of the city. And then there is the unique Casa de los Picos House, the Alhóndiga corn exchange market, with a façade that leaves no-one unmoved, and the tower Torreon de los Lozoya, originally a 14th century defensive structure, which are now used to hold cultural exhibitions.

In the Sierra de Gredos, 3 nights will be spent at the 3* National Parador of Gredos, built in an ancient hunting lodge built for the king of Spain Alfonso 13th and the first Parador opened in Spain. In Segovia, first night will be spent at the luxurious National Parador of La Granja 4*, ancient residence of the King’s infants, in a great location near the Royal Palace of La Granja; two nights will be spent in charming rural hotels, the Hotel de la Villa 3*, in Pedraza, built in an ancient noble house, and the country hotel Finca del Duque a very comfortable country style hotel, or at the boutique Hotel Fuente Plateada. Last night will be spent at the Hotel Monasterio de San Antonio el Real, a luxurious and charming 4* hotel. It was built in the cloisters of an ancient monastery from the 15th century, in the heart of the city of Segovia, a 5 min walk from the Roman Aqueduct.
FOOD AND WINE
You will be pampered by our attention to detail and our high standards in every aspect of the ride. Our exquisite aperitivos appear around the corner, just when you think you need a break. Our gourmet lunches served al fresco on white linens in stunning surroundings will become lifelong memories – dining will never be the same again. We always come up with surprises and special treats: delicious water cress in spring or exquisite mushrooms in the autumn, just picked up the same morning; a sumptuous birthday celebration in the middle of the countryside.
Breakfast, aperitifs, lunch, and dinner are included while on the trek. All the drinks are included during the meals. Tasting of Spanish red& white wines; sherry; beer, juices, soft drinks, and water.
A support vehicle will follow the riders during the entire trip, meeting for aperitifs, meals and at night.

The local cuisine is excellent, and much consideration is taken when planning the meals to provide visitors with a sampling of the many different delicious specialities. Lunch is usually a picnic in the countryside with set tables, chairs… and small feast every day! Some lunches will be cooked on the spot; others prepared the village bars o restaurants, always exquisite. Our exciting selection of local Spanish wines will delight the most demanding palates.
The aperitivos offer a selection of Iberico ham, local cheeses, olives, almonds, and fruit. In Segovia, Lucia’s Spanish omelette each day at aperitivo, probably the best Spanish omelette you will eat in Spain. You will try local food specialties, like the Avilian free range beef, and roast lamb and the suckling pig from Segovia.
All the aperitivos and lunch spots have been carefully selected for best views and scenery, while you enjoy the aperitifs and the meals, always surrounded by the horses at rest.
Dinners will be in the hotel or at a local restaurant with carefully chosen menus to add the specialties of the local gastronomy.

The Gredos horses for the first part of the ride, and the Segovia horses for the second part of the ride.
The horses in Gredos are Hispano-Arab, Andalusian, Arab and Lusitano breed ranging in height from 15-16 hh and in Segovia, they are mainly Anglo-Hispanos (Andalusian & Thoroughbred cross). They are all selected for their good nature and endurance. They are very well trained, responsive, fit and fun to ride,
RIDING ABILITY
Intermediate to advanced. Reasonably fit riders.
It is not necessary to be an expert rider, but it is essential that riders have trail riding experience, can easily manage a horse at all paces and be familiar and comfortable handling a horse on the ground. A level of fitness is required, as the days are 4-6 hours.
HORSES
The horses chosen for the ride are Menorquín crosses and Andalusians. Toni is breeding a cross between the Menorquín horse and the Menorquín trotters, both pitch black horses, to create a lighter and more athletic horse, ideal for the rides. The Pura Raza Menorquín horses are stallions who are not ideal for the trail rides, whereas the Menorquín crosses have the right size, character and endurance for the rides.

NATURE
The Menorca Biosphere Reserve was created in 1993 because of the Island status as a Natural Park. Sixteen years ago, this was a bold step but one which has been instrumental in the Island managing its development as a major holiday destination without succumbing to the worst excesses of mass tourism. The Island is unique in that although small its varied landscape offers the diversity of habitats that virtually represents the whole of the Mediterranean region in miniature.
The scheme encompasses gullies, caves, and wetlands together with a dunes system, coastal areas, and small islands. Menorca is home to 220 species of birds and a 1000 species of plants. The wetlands provide nesting sites for aquatic birds and birds of prey who nest water sources. These wetlands comprising ponds lagoons and marshes and their associated dunes systems are spread throughout the Island from Albufera de Es Grau in the east to Son Bou on the south coast and from Puerto Addaia, near Fornells in the North to L’Arenal de Son Saura in the south west corner of Menorca near to Cala en Bosch.
The Menorcan landscape is criss-crossed by gullies winding their way towards the coastal areas offering an ideal habitat for a diverse variety of flora and fauna as well as some breath-taking scenery.
The rocky coastline of Minorca is biologically important as it is home to a rich in species exclusive to the Island. The coastline also contains underwater caves where animals not known elsewhere in the region have made their home. Caves are not exclusive to the coast with many inland caves having their own unique species.
In the open Menorcan countryside non-agricultural vegetation comprising groves and woods made up of oaks, pines and wild olive trees completes this unique variety of Mediterranean environments in a compact and picturesque island.

HISTORY
Menorca, with its strategic position at the heart of the western Mediterranean has been at a pivotal point of the development of trade and the growth of civilisation ever since the first settlers from mainland Spain came here in the early Bronze Age. They built stone structures, temples, and elaborate burial chambers, which can still be seen throughout the island. Known as the Talaiotic culture, more than two thousand distinctive standing stones and settlements are scattered across Menorca making it one of the largest open-air museums in the world, with the highest concentration of megalithic monuments in the Mediterranean.
The first recorded visitors to the island were Phoenicians followed by Greek traders’ intent on extending their range of trading posts to the west. The island then experienced a succession of occupiers, from the first Roman colonisation in 123 BC, to rule by the Byzantine Empire in the early 6th century. In 903 the island became part of the Caliphate of Cordoba and during this period of Muslim domination the island prospered, as trade flourished and people of differing religious beliefs peacefully coexisted. Agricultural production grew and extensive irrigation systems were constructed. But following the invasion in 1287 by a Catalan army, Menorca went into a decline until the end of the Middle Ages, as the peasant classes were oppressed by both the landowning aristocracy and a powerful church.
In the 16th century the island was attacked by Turks, and Ciutadella razed to the ground, its population massacred or dispersed. In 1708, the first British troops land on the island and 4 years later, the island was ceded to Great Britain by the treaty of Utrecht. One of the first acts taken by Richard Kane, the first British governor, was to move the capital from Ciutadella to Maó, with its excellent harbour for the British fleet.
In 1756, Menorca was invaded by 20,000 French troops, and for the next 50 years, ownership of the island alternated between the disputing superpowers of Europe.
in 1802 Menorca was returned to Spain and over the 19th century the island became more prosperous, gaining international renown for high quality shoe production, textile spinning, and silver purse manufacture, a precursor of the costume jewellery for which the island is famed today. Dairy production increased and the island’s cheeses and butter received international acclaim.
FOOD AND WINE
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included while on the trek. The local cuisine is excellent, and much consideration is taken when planning the meals to provide visitors with a sampling of the many different dishes produced in the area.
Picnic lunches will consist of a sample of the local dishes cooked at the local restaurants.
The Camí de Cavalls is practically inaccessible the car. On this ride the support vehicle can only meet the riders for the mid-morning break on the first day.

It may seem like a simple cuisine, but do not be fooled by its apparent rudeness. Menorca plays with a perfect combination of rural and seafood cuisine, it has sublime pastries, and its dishes reverberate echoes of the Arabs, English -gin Xoriguer- and French who occupied the island in ancient times. In addition, it is supported by a capital product. The best thing about being such a small and limited territory is that the product travels little. The island offers a lot of quality and different characteristics, I suppose because of the climate and the terrain, vegetables from local producers in the market square have a great taste intensity”.
I was surprised by the treatment they give to seafood, especially lobster. I like the commitment to local produce: vegetables, meats, fresh fish… And not only in restaurants, but also in everyday life. The Menorcans prefer to spend a little more and eat some prawns, a lamb or some native aubergines. That is priceless.

This slow pace allows you to dive into Menorca’s diversity, embody all the scents that the breeze carries and feel immersed in the intense colours of its skies and beaches.

THE MENORCAN “MENORQUÍN” HORSE
The strong Menorcan equestrian traditions began originally with the Berber horses introduced to the island under Arab rule, to be reinforced by the Norman knights in the 12th century. Today, the cross of the Knights of Malta is an important emblem during the feast of St Joan celebrated in Ciutadella in midsummer.
The breeding of the Menorcan horses on the island dates back to the days when landowners had to maintain horses that could be ready to defend the island from invaders. The Menorcan breed, a spirited powerful glossy black horse, has a strong Moorish influence, but its introduction to the island cannot be dated with exactitude.
Famed for its beauty, spirit, and speed, the Menorcan horses have their own particular form of dressage – in which the animals are trained to rear up on their hind legs in a manoeuvre called the ‘bot’.
This can best be seen when the horses are put through their paces at the horse fairs and shows held throughout the summer months, and at the fiestas in all the towns of the island. The annual festivals always feature dressage competitions, with riders often dressed in black frock coats and the tricorn hats of the 18th century gentry on the island. Trotting races too are a popular pastime, with weekly race events happening in Ciutadella and Maó.

Over the centuries, various civilisations (Romans, Arabs, Jews, and Christians) have left an artistic heritage that is difficult to match elsewhere. This will become obvious as you stroll through its old town, whose streets still boast the medieval structure and civic and religious buildings of various architectural styles. Many of them were built during the Middle Ages, the heyday of this city. One example from this period is the Cathedral, the last Gothic building constructed in Spain; another is the Alcázar, the impressive fortress with its stunning views of the city. And then there is the unique Casa de los Picos House, the Alhóndiga corn exchange market, with a façade that leaves no-one unmoved, and the tower Torreon de los Lozoya, originally a 14th century defensive structure, which are now used to hold cultural exhibitions.
NATURE
TDURATON RIVER CANYON
The Parque Natural de las Hoces del río Duratón is situated to the northeast of Segovia, downstream from the town of Sepúlveda. In this area, the river has settled inside a deep canyon which in some places has over 100 metre drops. To the landscape’s beauty and interest, we must add the great archaeological and historic richness contained inside the gorge.
Up in the rocks presiding the gorge pairs of Griffon vultures have built their nests, accompanied by many Egyptian vultures, golden eagles, and peregrine falcons.
The area’s natural value is also enhanced both historically and artistically by the Romanesque sanctuary of San Frutos, caves with paintings from the Bronze Era and the architectural collection of Sepúlveda.
GUADARRAMA NATIONAL PARK
Located in the Eastern part of the Central Massif of Spain, the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park encompasses 33.960 hectares, from which 36% belong to the province of Segovia. This mountain range divides the Madrid and Segovia provinces. The majority of its surface is covered by heights where rocky outcrops, mountain pastures and shrubs dominate. The Segovia rides take place in the boundaries of this National Park.
CAÑADA REAL SORIANA ORIENTAL
Spain in furrowed with countless tracks, across its geography, that tell the history, the culture and the traditions of the people, as if they were the lines of a hand. They are the “Cañadas Reales”, old cattle paths, existing since prehistoric man needed to move his cattle to new pastures. This natural patrimony covers 125,000Kms, fifteen times the length of the Spanish railway network, and a total of 450,000 hectares. The Cañadas Reales have also a unique ecological value because, like rivers, they help the migration of a variety of species. These tracks were the main arteries of communication of the civilizations that for centuries lived in Spain. In the Segovia rides we will canter along the Cañada Soriana Oriental, on the slopes of the Guadarrama mountains.
FOOD AND WINE
Breakfast, aperitifs, lunches, and dinners are included while on the trek. The local cuisine is excellent, and much consideration is taken when planning the meals to provide visitors with a sampling of the many different dishes produced in the area. Lunches are exquisite picnics in the countryside with set tables, chairs… a small feast every day! Dinners at the hotels will feature a varied selection of the typical cuisine.

The pace of the ride varies with the terrain. The ride includes walks, trots, canters, and gallops depending on the terrain. Overall, it is a moderate pace, with some slow parts due to the mountainous terrain. There are open areas through the valleys where it is possible to canter with excellent tracks for exciting rides.

ITINERARY
The province of Segovia is in Central Spain, in the Meseta, the great high plateau of the Iberian Peninsula. It is situated between the provinces of Madrid, Guadalajara, Soria, Burgos, Valladolid, and Avila, in the region of Castilla y Leon.
The Segovia ride is a journey back in history, through open landscapes, ancient woods, and river valleys. You will explore on horseback some jewels of the Spanish history: the castles of Pedraza and Castilnovo; the Romanesque churches of Sotosalbos and Sepulveda; the royal site of La Granja de San Ildefonso, with its grand baroque palace and its beautiful gardens.
This ride will take you through very diverse natural landscapes, from the alpine views of the Sierra de Guadarrama, to the old transhumance trails and the open grazing fields; the ancient Valsain forests of pines, oaks, holm oaks and holly bush, where the Spanish kings used to hunt bears and wild boars; and through the vast grain fields, the Eresma river valley and the gorges of the Duraton river natural reserve.
The ride starts and ends in the UNESCO heritage medieval city of Segovia, World Heritage Town by the UNESCO, which boasts a magnificent cultural heritage including the colossal Roman Aqueduct.

ITINERARY
The Sierra de Gredos mountain range lies in central Spain within easy reach to the South West of Madrid, and much of it has a Regional Park status. This majestic stretch of mountains lying across the centre of Spain, like a titanic rampart, reaches its highest point at the Almanzor peak (2,592m/7,776 ft).
Very pleasant fun day rides, remarkably diverse landscapes, with great mountain views and pristine mountains rivers. This itinerary is designed to enjoy the spectacular wildflowers of the Gredos Mountains in Springtime and the best Summer riding in Spain. The days riding combine the 360º views of the high mountain pastures and the lush alpine river valleys, all above 1500 m, with a very unique flora, rich in endemic species including 12 different varieties of “broom” species (Genista), and the invigorating swims in the rivers and in the mountain gorges.
The summer ride is a real summer holiday, with long picnic lunches and beautiful pools to swim – some are great Jacuzzis, followed by sunbathing siestas. This is a part of Spain where you can enjoy a great ride in the middle of the summer, with an average temperature in Navarredonda de Gredos, in July-August 25ºC maximum during the day and minimum during the night 12ºC.

HISTORY
ABOUT GREDOS
Remains of some prehistoric settlements from the Neolithic period were found in the Southern part of the Gredos. The presence of humans in the area is also recorded in the 4th century BC in remains of the «Cultura de los Verracos», sculptures in granite of, it is presumed, bulls. The Romans did not settle in the Gredos. They built mountain passes through the Sierra de Gredos, and we can still see the Roman roads built in the 2nd century BC. The Arab settlements in the Gredos were rather non-existent. During the Arab occupation of the Iberian Peninsula, the Christian kings were reorganised in the North (9th and 10th centuries). Castilla became and independent Christian kingdom in 1033. In those times the borders with the Arab Empire were in the region of the Tajo and the Duero rivers, where many battles took place, with the Sierra de Gredos as a geographical barrier. The Gredos mountain passes were often crossed by the Christian troops in their attempts to conquer the main Arab settlements. In the 14th century the Gredos region was fully colonised. Many Jews populated the southern part of the Gredos, after the Reconquista, developing the agriculture and the artisan jobs. By the 15th century the Castilian noblemen had control of the whole territory. From the time of the kingdom of the Catholic kings onwards, the political history of Gredos is subject to the general history of Spain.
In medieval times, the livestock was a very important part of the economy of Castilla. The geographical aspects of Castilla y León – allowing the migration of the sheep from winter to summer pastures – the Reconquista and the repopulation of this region made possible a sustainable growth, based on the very selective breeding of the merino sheep. The migration of the livestock – called in Spanish «Trashumancia» – and the network of cattle paths established in those medieval times show the importance of this unique way of living. For more than four centuries Spain was the producer of the highest quality merino wool in the world and had the monopoly of the international markets. In the mid-18th century, 3,500,000 merino sheep trashumantes (that the shepherds moved seasonally from winter to summer pastures and back) were registered. The transhumance was, for centuries, the main way of living for the inhabitants of the Gredos, especially for the ones living on the northern side of the Sierra, until the price of the wool dropped in the international markets in the 19th century. More effort then had to go into the agriculture, developing the watering systems, and cultivating crops imported from America (maize, potatoes, beans), for which there was a demand in the European market; and, in the southern Gredos, olive groves and orchards were also developed. In the northern part of the Sierra, in the higher valleys where only cereals could be cultivated, they converted the livestock from sheep and goats to cattle. Cattle-breeding, for the selective Avilan beef, is still the main source of business for many of the villagers of the Northern Valleys of the Gredos. In recent years Rural Tourism has developed as a key factor for the sustainability of the life in Gredos.
ABOUT ÁVILA
We strongly recommend spending a night in Avila, a medieval fortified city and UNESCO heritage site. This can be done before or after the ride and coordinated via our helpful Concierge Services.
Avila and its famous walls were built in the 11th and 12th century (2500m, 88 towers, 9 gates) to protect the Spanish territories from the Moors. The walls are still intact, and visitors can walk the ramparts taking in amazing views of the surrounding countryside.
Avila is the “City of Saints and Stones”. The birthplace of St Theresa and the burial place of the Grand Inquisitor Torquemada. Avila has maintained its medieval austerity and authenticity. This can still be seen in the Gothic cathedral and the fortifications which are amongst the best preserved in Spain. Charming squares and beautiful quiet pedestrian streets lend themselves to pleasant strolls through this old historic town.
NATURE
The Sierra de Gredos mountain range is situated between the provinces of Avila, Cáceres and Salamanca, crossed by the Duero and Tajo rivers. It is the main range of the Sistema Central and covers 140kms, from east to west. The Gredos are divided into three parts: The Eastern Massif; the Central Massif (in the valleys of which our rides take place), including the Almanzor peak; and the Western massif. The name of Gredos seems to derive from a Celtic root that refers to the whiteness of the snow.
The Gredos mountains and valleys in the province of Ávila are part of Spain’s protected Natural Heritage and received their designation as a Regional Park in 1996, with a protected area totalling 86,397 hectares.
Glacial cirques, green alpine pastures, lakes, and groves of scotch pine make up the northern face of the massif, which is characterised by a luminous atmosphere and mild summer temperatures. The traditional husbandry in this region has allowed a harmony to exist between man and nature all the way up to the present day; it is evident in every corner of the Gredos. The mountain farming and cattle-raising which is widespread in the Gredos and the rational exploitation of forestry permits man here to co-exist with the region’s unique flora and fauna.
Gredos is a paradise for botanists for its diversity of ecosystems rich in wildflowers. There are at least 11 species, which are endemic to the Gredos (only found in this region). And it is an exceptional area for birds, and many interesting and unusual species can be seen here.
Gredos has obtained the certificate of Starlight Reserve granted by the Starlight Foundation (UNESCO), becoming the first of its kind in the Castile and León region. A Starlight Reserve is a protected natural space, in specially designated areas around the world, where the quality of the night sky and access to the light of the stars is proactively preserved.

NON-RIDERS
OGredos is our home and we have great flexibility and many local contacts to organise activities for non-riders. They can enjoy themselves just as much as they could by taking any trip to this region of Spain and still spend a good part of the time with the riders.
Non-riders can hire a car and visit the interesting tourist spots in the area. They can re-join the riders in the evening for dinner and split off again after breakfast the following morning. We will provide information on the area, suggest itineraries, and connect with local guides and any place of interest, local artisans, or a small bar in a village where the local meet. On some of the ride, some of the days, non-riders can go in the support vehicle and join the riders for the aperitives and lunches in the countryside too.
The Gredos itineraries can be adapted for cycling (ideal for road cycling and E-bikes and there are good paths and beautiful remote empty roads and villages with the greatest views); walking or hiking: fit walkers can follow some of the itineraries the riders do and then we can organise local drivers to meet the walkers and take them to the hotel; hiking or trekking in the Gredos high mountains for fit skilful trekking adepts is magnificent. Birdwatching, flyfishing, stargazing the Dark Sky of Gredos, wine tasting and tapas festivals in the local bars. In May-June the Broom Blossom festival of Gredos; in June the Cattle Transhumance and in July the Concert Artists in the Nature (with artists such as Sting, Bob Dylan or Mark Knoffler in the past years) ; tapas festivals in the local bars…there is plenty to do for non-riders in the Gredos rides. And there is also a Rural Spa, where one can relax and enjoy a massage.

We aim to minimize the impact in the environment. Our meals are elaborated with local produce: salad, vegetables, meats, and fruit are produced in the Northern and the Southern slopes of Gredos. Even our olive oil is produced is a small local cooperative. We serve local Spanish wines and beer made in Gredos. Whenever possible our choice is Zero km food (0 km food). It denotes the food produced, sold and eaten locally – the food which travelled zero kilometres. Our rides hardly require transport of the guests, as we usually ride to the hotels where riders and horses stay. We minimize the waste in our rides. Our picnics are 99% waste free with proper reusable crockery and cutlery, glasses, and tablecloths. These may seem small things, but they count.

ITINERARY
In Andalusia, it is still possible to ride through the most unimaginable landscapes for several days, combining nature with the most ancient traditions. To the West of Sevilla, we will ride on the pilgrimage roads to El Rocío.
Leaving from the south of Sevilla, we will ride through the olive groves and the orange trees, in blossom in the early spring of Sevilla. We will visit some private Haciendas and follow the Caminos to El Rocío, a traditional pilgrimage to this unique white village, home of the sacred Virgen del Rocío and named the International village of the horse. All the houses have stables, and all the streets are sand tracks. In the times of the pilgrimage, this village hosts thousands of horses – many of them Andalusian stallions.
The Doñana nature reserve stretches of 100,000 hectares protected area and it is one of Europe’s most valuable natural landscapes. The landscape of this area is of great diversity: forests of pine and cork oaks; dunes, marshlands and preserves. Thousands of birds come to spend the winter in this paradise.

NON-RIDERS
On all our tours non-riders can enjoy themselves just as much as they could by taking any trip to that region of Spain and still spend a good part of the time with the riders.
Non-riders can hire a car and visit the interesting tourist spots in the area. They can re-join the riders in the evening for dinner and split off again after breakfast the following morning. We will provide information on the area, suggest itineraries, and connect with local guides and any place of interest, local artisans, or a small bar in a village where the local meet. On some of the ride, some of the days, non-riders can go in the support vehicle and join the riders for the aperitivos and lunches in the countryside too.
In Sevilla, the sandy trails are best on a horse-carriage that can be privately organised for the non-riders to accompany the riders for 3 or 4 days during the ride. It is a great experience to enjoy the same landscapes than the riders and join the aperitivos and lunches in the countryside. Driving the streets of El Rocío in horse carriage is the most natural way to visit this horse village.
A visit of the city of Sevilla offers many attractions of history, traditions, and gastronomy.
Other activities such as bird watching in the Doñana world known bird sanctuary or a private visit of the Doñana National park are highly recommended.

NATURE
DOÑANA NATIONAL PARK
The Parque Nacional de Doñana is one of Europe’s most important wetland reserves and a major site for migrating birds. It is an immense area; the park itself and surrounding “Parque natural or Entorno de Doñana” (a protected buffer zone) amount to over 1,300 sq. km in the provinces of Huelva, Sevilla and Cádiz. It is internationally for recognised for its great ecological wealth. Doñana has become a key centre in the world of conservationism.
Doñana is well known for its enormous variety of bird species, either permanent residents, winter visitors from north and central Europe or summer visitors from Africa, like its numerous types of geese and colourful colonies of flamingo. It has one of the world’s largest colonies of Spanish imperial eagles. The park comprises three distinct kinds of ecosystem: the marshlands, the Mediterranean scrublands, and the coastal mobile dunes with their beaches.
The configuration of the Parque Nacional de Doñana is a result of its past as the delta of the Guadalquivir river, the ‘big river’, or Wada-I-Kebir, of the Moors. But it is a delta with a difference. Unlike most, the river has only one outlet to the sea, just below Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The rest of what used to be its delta has gradually been blocked off by a huge sandbar that stretches from the mouth of the Río Tinto, near Palos de la Frontera, to the riverbank opposite Sanlúcar, and which the sea winds have gradually formed into high dunes. Behind this natural barrier stretches the marshlands (marismas).
The effect of this extraordinary mélange of land and water was to create an environment shunned by people but ideal for wildlife. As early as the thirteenth century, the kings of Castille set aside a portion of the Doñana as a royal hunting estate; later the dukes of Medina Sidonia made it their private coto too. One of the duchesses of Medina Sidonia, Doña Ana de Silva y Mendoza, indulged her antisocial instincts by building a residence there that was more hermitage than palace.
HISTORY
ABOUT SEVILLA
Sevilla is the capital of Andalusia and of the province of Seville. It is situated on the plain of the River Guadalquivir, with an average elevation of 7 metres (23 ft) above sea level. The inhabitants of the city are known as sevillanos or hispalenses, following the Roman name of the city, Hispalis.
Sevilla is without a doubt one of Spain’s most beautiful cities. The Sevillanos are an extremely proud and passionate people. To many Sevilla is not just a place, it is a way of life. The Guadalquivir, Semana Santa, the April Feria, Velazquez, Don Juan Tenorio, orange blossom, the dancing of Sevillanas and bullfights…. Sevilla is bright, beautiful and a city that must be seen and must be experienced.
Following the Moorish conquest in 712, Seville came under a long period of Moorish rule. It was during this period that both the Giralda and the Mosque (Mezquita) were built, on the site where the Cathedral now stands.
With the discovery of America in 1492, Sevilla developed a monopoly on trade with the New World. It became the arrival and departure point for every expedition to the newly discovered continent. Sevilla began to amass a great wealth, palaces were built, new industries were created and the whole city was a hive of activity. All financed by American gold.
In 1929 Sevilla hosted the Ibero-American Exhibition and in 1992, the Expo. Both events had a significant impact on Sevilla to become the beautiful city you can discover nowadays.
ACCOMMODATION
Lodging is wonderfully comfortable and full of charm. The Cortijo de La Corbera, where the ride starts and ends, has accommodation in the finca, eight beautiful bedrooms, charming and with all the facilities. The Cortijo Ardea Purpurea (Purple Heron), in the boundaries of the Doñana Park has been built in the traditional country style, with thatched roofs and wood beams, and it has the atmosphere of a charming lodge. In the magic village of El Rocio, we will stay at the Casa Rural El Lince, one of the traditional houses of this horse village, which has been restored as a comfortable hotel. The last two nights will be spent at the luxurious Parador of Mazagón 4*. It is situated right on the Atlantic coast with the best views of the ocean and direct access to the beach. It has a beautiful garden with a swimming pool and spa, a great way to end this exciting week ride.

FOOD AND WINE
The local cuisine is excellent, and much consideration is taken when planning the meals to provide visitors with a sampling of the many different dishes produced in the area. Lunch is usually a picnic in the countryside with set tables, chairs… and small feast every day! Some lunches will be cooked on the spot; others prepared the village bars o restaurants, always exquisite. Dinner is at the hotels will feature a varied selection of the typical cuisine.
Breakfast, aperitifs, lunch, and dinner are included while on the trek. All the drinks are included during the meals. Local Spanish red& white wines; sherry; beer, juices, soft drinks, and water.

Seville is famous for its cuisine, boasting superb seafood platters next to traditional recipes with multicultural origins. Traditional foods that locals and tourists love in Seville are bulls’ tail, pork in whiskey, pork cheek, and stewed meats. Let us not lose sight of the tasty treats that come from the sea. Garlic baby clams is one of Huelva cuisine’s most classic recipes and one of the most renowned species is the white prawn; one of a kind and probably one of the best in the world. Furthermore, the presence of the Atlantic Ocean guarantees the supply of top quality fish with all kinds of dishes and very special recipes, such as skate with paprika, tuna with tomato (and many others ways), sword fish, or rice with clams In Huelva, the ham also has its own name: Jamón de Huelva. Made from black Iberian pigs who live freely in meadows and feed on acorns, its taste, colour, appearance and texture have Other dishes that stand out include the broad bean dish, chick peas with spinach and many other delicious casseroles. Regional vegetables and top-quality olive oil make it possible to prepare dishes such as gazpacho and salmorejo, cold tomato-based summer soups. Golden thistle is also a very typical dish in Huelva. This simple recipe has prawn, ham and egg as its ingredients. This surf and turf combination makes for an authentic gourmet dish.
The aperitivos in Sevilla offer a selection of Fino Sherry from Jerez and Manzanilla, both made from Palomino grapes. The Manzanilla is produced exclusively in the bodegas of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The special climatic conditions of the town, situated closer to the ocean than Jerez, favour the formation of a special kind of veil of flor resulting in a slightly lighter variety of Fino. Huelva produces high quality white wines, made with the Zalema, the indigenous white grape of the region.

RIDING ABILITY
Intermediate to experienced. Reasonably fit riders.
It is not necessary to be an expert rider, but it is essential that riders have trail riding experience, can easily manage a horse at all paces and be familiar and comfortable handling a horse on the ground. A level of fitness is required, as the days are 4-6 hours. Horses will be ready for the riders to get on every morning.
HORSES
The horses are Hispano-Arab, Anglo-Hispano Arab and Andalusian breed ranging in height from 15 – 16 hh and selected for their good nature and endurance. They have been carefully bred and trained by Alfonso Gonzalo de Bustos, a great horseman, who is an expert in Andalusian dressage or Doma Vaquera, and passionate about all the Andalusian traditions. They are very well schooled, with training in dressage, show-jumping and cross-country. They participate in eventing clinics and TREC competitions.

Gredos is our home and we have great flexibility and many local contacts to organise activities for non-riders. They can enjoy themselves just as much as they could by taking any trip to this region of Spain and still spend a good part of the time with the riders.

The Gredos itineraries can be adapted for cycling (ideal for road cycling and E-bikes and there are good paths and beautiful remote empty roads and villages with the greatest views); walking or hiking: fit walkers can follow some of the itineraries the riders do and then we can organise local drivers to meet the walkers and take them to the hotel; hiking or trekking in the Gredos high mountains for fit skilful trekking adepts is magnificent. Birdwatching, flyfishing, stargazing the Dark Sky of Gredos, wine tasting and tapas festivals in the local bars. In May-June the Broom Blossom festival of Gredos; in June the Cattle Transhumance and in July the Concert Artists in the Nature (with artists such as Sting, Bob Dylan or Mark Knoffler in the past years) ; tapas festivals in the local bars…there is plenty to do for non-riders in the Gredos rides. And there is also a Rural Spa, where one can relax and enjoy a massage.

NATURE
The Sierra de Gredos mountain range is situated between the provinces of Avila, Cáceres and Salamanca, crossed by the Duero and Tajo rivers. It is the main range of the Sistema Central and covers 140kms, from east to west. The Gredos are divided into three parts: The Eastern Massif; the Central Massif (in the valleys of which our rides take place), including the Almanzor peak; and the Western massif. The name of Gredos seems to derive from a Celtic root that refers to the whiteness of the snow.
The Gredos mountains and valleys in the province of Ávila are part of Spain’s protected Natural Heritage and received their designation as a Regional Park in 1996, with a protected area totalling 86,397 hectares.
Glacial cirques, green alpine pastures, lakes, and groves of scotch pine make up the northern face of the massif, which is characterised by a luminous atmosphere and mild summer temperatures. The traditional husbandry in this region has allowed a harmony to exist between man and nature all the way up to the present day; it is evident in every corner of the Gredos. The mountain farming and cattle-raising which is widespread in the Gredos and the rational exploitation of forestry permits man here to co-exist with the region’s unique flora and fauna.
Gredos is a paradise for botanists for its diversity of ecosystems rich in wildflowers. There are at least 11 species, which are endemic to the Gredos (only found in this region). And it is an exceptional area for birds, and many interesting and unusual species can be seen here.
Gredos has obtained the certificate of Starlight Reserve granted by the Starlight Foundation (UNESCO), becoming the first of its kind in the Castile and León region. A Starlight Reserve is a protected natural space, in specially designated areas around the world, where the quality of the night sky and access to the light of the stars is proactively preserved.
HISTORY
ABOUT GREDOS
Remains of some prehistoric settlements from the Neolithic period were found in the Southern part of the Gredos. The presence of humans in the area is also recorded in the 4th century BC in remains of the «Cultura de los Verracos», sculptures in granite of, it is presumed, bulls. The Romans did not settle in the Gredos. They built mountain passes through the Sierra de Gredos, and we can still see the Roman roads built in the 2nd century BC. The Arab settlements in the Gredos were rather non-existent. During the Arab occupation of the Iberian Peninsula, the Christian kings were reorganised in the North (9th and 10th centuries). Castilla became and independent Christian kingdom in 1033. In those times the borders with the Arab Empire were in the region of the Tajo and the Duero rivers, where many battles took place, with the Sierra de Gredos as a geographical barrier. The Gredos mountain passes were often crossed by the Christian troops in their attempts to conquer the main Arab settlements. In the 14th century the Gredos region was fully colonised. Many Jews populated the southern part of the Gredos, after the Reconquista, developing the agriculture and the artisan jobs. By the 15th century the Castilian noblemen had control of the whole territory. From the time of the kingdom of the Catholic kings onwards, the political history of Gredos is subject to the general history of Spain.
In medieval times, the livestock was a very important part of the economy of Castilla. The geographical aspects of Castilla y León – allowing the migration of the sheep from winter to summer pastures – the Reconquista and the repopulation of this region made possible a sustainable growth, based on the very selective breeding of the merino sheep. The migration of the livestock – called in Spanish «Trashumancia» – and the network of cattle paths established in those medieval times show the importance of this unique way of living. For more than four centuries Spain was the producer of the highest quality merino wool in the world and had the monopoly of the international markets. In the mid-18th century, 3,500,000 merino sheep trashumantes (that the shepherds moved seasonally from winter to summer pastures and back) were registered. The transhumance was, for centuries, the main way of living for the inhabitants of the Gredos, especially for the ones living on the northern side of the Sierra, until the price of the wool dropped in the international markets in the 19th century. More effort then had to go into the agriculture, developing the watering systems, and cultivating crops imported from America (maize, potatoes, beans), for which there was a demand in the European market; and, in the southern Gredos, olive groves and orchards were also developed. In the northern part of the Sierra, in the higher valleys where only cereals could be cultivated, they converted the livestock from sheep and goats to cattle. Cattle-breeding, for the selective Avilan beef, is still the main source of business for many of the villagers of the Northern Valleys of the Gredos. In recent years Rural Tourism has developed as a key factor for the sustainability of the life in Gredos.
ABOUT AVILA
We strongly recommend spending a night in Avila, a medieval fortified city and UNESCO heritage site. This can be done before or after the ride and coordinated via our helpful Concierge Services.
Avila and its famous walls were built in the 11th and 12th century (2500m, 88 towers, 9 gates) to protect the Spanish territories from the Moors. The walls are still intact, and visitors can walk the ramparts taking in amazing views of the surrounding countryside.
Avila is the “City of Saints and Stones”. The birthplace of St Theresa and the burial place of the Grand Inquisitor Torquemada. Avila has maintained its medieval austerity and authenticity. This can still be seen in the Gothic cathedral and the fortifications which are amongst the best preserved in Spain. Charming squares and beautiful quiet pedestrian streets lend themselves to pleasant strolls through this old historic town.
ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation has been carefully chosen for the quality, the location and the superb hospitality shown to both riders and horses. Every night, the horses stay in a field next to the hotel where the group stays. The level of contact with the horses is incredibly special on this ride.
The ride will include some luxurious hotels with character, and some small and charming country hotels, providing double or twin-bedded rooms and en-suite baths.

First, second and last nights are spent at the National Parador of Gredos ***, an ancient hunting lodge built by the king Alfonso 13th, the first Parador opened in Spain. One night is spent at the Hotel Puerta de Gredos (a 4* hotel) built in a grand XVIth century country estate. Other accommodations will be comfortable rural hotels, like La Trocha de Hoyorredondo where the horses sleep in the backyard and come to the windows to wake up the riders in the morning.

You will be pampered by our attention to detail and our high standards in every aspect of the ride. Our exquisite aperitivos appear around the corner, just when you think you need a break. Our gourmet lunches served al fresco on white linens in stunning surroundings will become lifelong memories – dining will never be the same again. We always come up with surprises and special treats: delicious water cress in spring or exquisite mushrooms in the autumn, just picked up the same morning; a sumptuous birthday celebration in the middle of the countryside or under a 400 year old holm oak; a wine pairing gourmet dinner in a local wine shop, hosted by the whole family.

We aim to minimize the impact in the environment. Our meals are elaborated with local produce: salad, vegetables, meats, and fruit are produced in the Northern and the Southern slopes of Gredos. Even our olive oil is produced is a small local cooperative. We serve local Spanish wines and beer made in Gredos. Whenever possible our choice is Zero km food (0 km food). It denotes the food produced, sold and eaten locally – the food which travelled zero kilometres. Our rides hardly require transport of the guests, as we usually ride to the hotels where riders and horses stay. We minimize the waste in our rides. Our picnics are 99% waste free with proper reusable crockery and cutlery, glasses, and tablecloths. These may seem small things, but they count.

PACE OF THE RIDE
The pace of the ride varies with the terrain. The ride includes walks, trots, canters, and gallops depending on the terrain. Overall, it is a moderate pace, with some slow parts due to the mountainous terrain. There are open areas through the valleys where it is possible to canter with excellent tracks for exciting rides.

ITINERARY
The Sierra de Gredos mountain range lies in central Spain within easy reach to the South West of Madrid, and much of it has a Regional Park status. This majestic stretch of mountains lying across the centre of Spain, like a titanic rampart, reaches its highest point at the Almanzor peak (2,592m/7,776 ft).
The Northern valleys of Gredos were only populated in the 13th-14th centuries after the Reconquista of Spain against the Moors. Until 1834 only shepherds moving their flocks had reached some of the remote and inaccessible alpine valleys of these mountains. The sparse population has contributed to keeping the nature of Gredos intact until the present. The villages were settled in the valleys and they still hold their uniqueness in their architecture and traditions.
The Valleys of Gredos ride travels through a very representative part of this region in the province of Avila, truly rural Spain. It is an excellent terrain for riding, mostly open fields with magnificent views and paths that follow the course of rivers. The landscapes are full of light and colour, where wild nature shows its splendour. Riders will be inspired by this Nature Park’s diverse display of flora and fauna through the Tormes, Corneja and Alberche river valleys. Ride up slopes of pine, poplars, and holm oaks; cross rivers of pristine waters; and gallop across pastures and open fields. The small villages along the trail display the way of life of their people, isolated in this inaccessible nature that shapes their unique character.

The pace of the ride varies with the terrain. Overall, it is a moderate pace, with some slow parts due to the mountainous terrain. There are open areas through the valleys where it is possible to canter with excellent tracks for exciting rides. The average riding time is five to six hours per day.
